That’s how our week has gone. With three extended family celebrations (two down, one to go), Christmas is a days-long celebration around here.
For this mama, the highlights are the times spent together with just my own little family. We managed to gather everyone together for our favorite holiday specials on DVD. Christmas Eve church all together and placing baby Jesus in the manger at the end of the day. Stockings and opening our carefully selected gifts for each other.
My most exciting gift: Together my girls plotted to give me the Raskog I’ve been coveting from IKEA for two years, as well as several interesting items to place in its baskets.
The cannister on the top shelf, a gift from Middle Sister, has been dubbed “Three.” She knows how much I love little oddities like that. It just occured to me that Three can also remind me of our three darlings, even when they’re not all here.
Boxing Day included breakfast and shopping at IKEA, where I used this year’s birthday money filling our basket with various household items that will make life just a little more fun in the coming cold and dark days of winter.

Two IKEA items now brightening up our ground floor: Matching bedspreads re-purposed to make a slipcover and a table cloth. Fun!
Today, the final extended family celebration and tomorrow Oldest’s boyfriend joins us for a week. I’ve taken all next week as vacation, so the fun will continue through New Year.
It’s been a joyful holiday for me. I’m hoping it’s been the same for all of you.
Enjoy the relaxation. It’s funny how we don’t realise how much we covet the peace and silence until we have had a houseful of guests and family.

Yes! Thank goodness I’ve managed to survive the large-group celebrations and now am having a week of laid-back vacation time. I hope it’s been a good time for you, having all of yours together again.
