Surprise! Night on the town.

The Husband got home unexpectedly last evening. He’d requested home time beginning tonight, so that we can make the trip to see The Boy’s opera tomorrow. You never know how trucking loads, pick-ups, and deliveries are going to work out…it turned out to be best if he just came home a day early to make sure he was here in time for his requested day off. Lovely surprise!

Even better, he’ll be here for Middle Sister’s choral concert this evening. The evening will consist of all the choirs at her university, performing a benefit concert for a local children’s charity, and held at a magnificent cathedral just off the Country Club Plaza. So the husband and I will head downtown early for a meal at some interesting eatery TBA, then on to the cathedral for some beautiful music.

I’m not usually comfortable with impromptu plans like this. But then I’m also not usually comfortable making plans for a night out in general. Chances are I’ll get to about the time to start getting ready and then realize I’d rather go toes-up than be out and about at night. Somehow this almost-last-minute date seems to work for me this time, though. Doesn’t hurt that it’s warm out, light until after 8:00, and the breeze is scented with the fragrance of budding trees and bushes.

Date night, here we come!

    • The issue for us was that for so long we were spending WAY too much time together. When he was home all the time because first he was changing careers, then he had a major injury, then he changed jobs…spending even more time together on a date didn’t appeal to me. Now that he’s on the road most of the time I’m finding it really is true that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or at least it makes this heart a little less annoyed all the time.
